The structural diagnostic

Fourteen statements about how you actually work, scored across the three parts of the method. Most of what goes wrong is one of them being missing, and people are rarely weak in the part they assume. It runs entirely in your browser: your answers are never sent anywhere, never stored, and gone when you close the tab.

Answer for how you actually work, not how you intend to. The result is only useful if the input is honest, and nobody else sees it.

01Before starting recent work, I could name the one person who would commit, and the date the choice goes stale.
02My alternatives include the status quo, written down as an alternative rather than assumed.
03I generally start by exploring the data to see what the problem looks like.
04When a brief arrives as a topic and a deadline, I send back a choice sentence before I start work.
05I write down what I would pick, and what would prove me wrong, before any query runs.
06I can name, for my current work, the specific quantity and threshold at which I would recommend something else.
07My analyses tend to include work I did because it was thorough, rather than because it could change the ranking.
08I put consequences in units that bite, rather than reporting movement in a house metric.
09I reach an important answer a second way, cheaply, before presenting it.
10My recommendations name an owner who can change a parameter without convening a task force.
11I specify what the process does when an input is missing or the system is unsure.
12My work typically ends when the analysis is correct and the meeting agrees.
13I set a revisit date or a flip condition, rather than committing to ongoing monitoring.
14I have asked the adjacent team what they will do if my recommendation works as designed.

What Would Change the Ranking

One method, one worked example, every other Tuesday

One piece of the method, one worked example from real operations, and one thing to try before you open a notebook. No news, no roundups, no launch announcements.

If the result was uncomfortable

The same diagnosis, run on your actual work rather than your self-report

A coaching engagement opens with a read of three to five real briefs and write-ups against the same tests. Self-report is a reasonable first approximation and it is not the same thing as evidence.
